This is an exciting week for the breeder. The puppies open their eyes and ears and they start to discover their world. At the beginning of the week the puppies started to sit and look at the world around them.
Later on during the week the pups first play movements could be seen . They are now reacting with other puppies and objects, so we have given the puppies their first toys. The puppies are walking around (they are still a bit unstable) and crawling out of their box . They are also awake a lot more and now have a nasty habit of barking at 03.00 - both Maddy and I are just a little tired of that.
I don't think that the pups have connected that my face and hands are from the same person yet. When they see my hands they think of food and search for a bottle nipple. When they see my face they are starting to wag their tails and bark.
The very first steps towards weaning have been taken. The puppies have been lapping up their milk and today, on their three week birthday, we added a little ground puppy food to the milk blend. They loved it, and all partook of the feast.
Maddy has mastitis (in one of her 10 teats), so she has been a bit under the weather. The flea "problem" is gone. I treated the adult dogs and combed the puppies - I will keep my eye out for more though.
The puppies have all been wormed - they were very good and swallowed all their medicine without complaint. Their claws have been trimmed again. That is 198 claw trimmings to be picked up when we are done.
True to her wonderful nature”Auntie Abby" is putting in time with the puppies. She helps keep the pups clean and spends time playing carefully with them. Today she started to gently discipline the pups. Maddy seems to be quite happy to have the extra help. Freja, still a puppy herself, seems to be waiting until she can run around with them. Tulle seems to have the "if I ignore them, maybe they will disappear" attitude
